My 'Film Set' Project - Brief

To help demonstrate my creative and practical skills for my application to the BFI course I have decided to do a project that involves choosing a recognisable film set and making a scale model of it. I'm hoping that this will not only demonstrate but also develop and help my understanding of a range of processes from planning, designing, knowledge of materials, building and finishing the product to a high standard of quality.

First I will need to decide on a film set that I think is recognisable and one that will be effective but also possible to produce in the time that I have.

Another idea I had, which will only happen if I have enough time at the end of the film set, is to take a piece of text maybe a poem or section of a short story that is descriptive and create a version of the scene that is being described, from my imagination. The reason I had this idea is because that is the process that most production designers have to go through in order to transform a book into a film adaptation.

Product Design AS Level - Piano Jewelry box

For my AS Level Product Design project i had to design and make a jewelry box. After many initial design ideas and countless sketches of different concepts, I chose to develop my idea of a grand piano.
I used measurements from an actual grand piano in the music department at my school and was able to scale down the shape in order to maintain the correct proportions.

The keyboard section is made from acrylic that was cut and engraved using a laser cutter, the black trimmings above and below the keyboard I decided to engrave (also using the laser cutter) with lyrics from the popular Billy Joel song 'Piano Man'.

To document the progress for product design A Level, instead of using an online blog as it is more challenging to brain storm ideas and drawings, I used an A3 written coursework folder. Unfortunately this means I can't provide a link to more of my work for this project but will be able to post pictures of design development pages.

I enjoyed this project because it allowed me to create a physical piece of work that started as an idea and I am able to see a result of all the planning and work I put into it, which is most rewarding.

Media Studies A- Level Music Video

For my A-Level media project I chose to create my own music video and promotional material to go with it. The reason I chose this brief out of all the options is because I am very interactive with a wide range of music styles. I knew it would play to my advantage to choose a subject that would engage me and motivate me to achieve my best standard of work.

I thoroughly enjoyed every step of making this music video; product research intrigued me as I was able to explore further how music, both old and new are marketed.

Planning the production enabled me to combine my knowledge about conventions of media and my musical skills in order to create a realistic but effective plan of action for my production.

Although getting the right camera shots I had planned proved to be challenging, I was able to use my creativity to come up with alternative camera shots during my time on set.

Editing took the most time and the highest level of accuracy throughout the whole production process as it involved syncing the music track (that I previously recorded) with the video of Jazz playing piano and singing.

Below I have provided the link for my A2 blog as well as my music video and DVD cover.
